`Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) says:` When we were in Yemen, news reached us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had left Makkah, so we also set out to migrate towards him (peace be upon him). I and my two brothers, Abu Burdah and Abu Rahm, were with me; I was the youngest of them, and fifty-three (53) men from my people accompanied us. So, we all boarded a ship. By chance, this ship reached the land of the Negus, the king of Abyssinia. There we met Sayyiduna Ja’far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). We stayed with him, then we all set out together and reached the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he had already conquered Khaybar. Other people began to say to us, the people of the ship, that in migration, we have preceded you. And Sayyidah Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her), who had come with us, went as a guest to Umm al-Mu’minin Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she too had migrated with the emigrants to the land of the Negus. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Umm al-Mu’minin Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) while Sayyidah Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) was present with her. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw Asma and asked, “Who is this?” Umm al-Mu’minin Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied, “This is Asma bint Umais.” He said, “The one who went to the land of Abyssinia and has now come by sea?” Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “Yes, I am she.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “We have preceded you in migration, so we have more right to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than you.” Hearing this, she became angry and said: “By Allah! Never! You were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he would feed your hungry and advise your ignorant, and we were in the land of strangers and enemies, which is Abyssinia, and all these hardships of ours were in the way of Allah and His Messenger. By Allah! Eating and drinking is forbidden for me until I mention your words to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). We were harmed and were always in fear. Soon I will mention this to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and ask him.” By Allah! I will neither lie nor be crooked nor say more than this.” When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived, Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “O Prophet of Allah! Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has said such and such.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, “What did you reply to him?” She said, “I replied to him in such and such a way.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “No one has more right than you, for Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions have one migration, and you, the people of the ship, have two migrations.”
