Hadith 1633

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Abi Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the battle of Dhat al-Riqa’, described the prayer of fear (i.e., the prayer performed in fear). One group formed a row with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and another group faced the enemy. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led those with him in one rak‘ah, then he stood while they (the followers) completed their prayer and then went to face the enemy. Then the other group came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led them in the second rak‘ah, which was remaining for him, then he remained seated while they completed their prayer, and then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said the salam with them.
