Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) met Zaid bin Amr bin Nufail (may Allah be pleased with him) in the (valley of) Baldah (at a time) when revelation had not yet begun to descend upon the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). A dining mat was spread before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), but he refused to eat that food. Then Zaid said, "I do not eat the meat of those animals which you slaughter in the name of idols; I will only eat the meat of that animal which is slaughtered in the name of Allah." And Zaid considered the method of slaughtering animals by the Quraysh to be wrong and used to say, "Allah alone created the goat, sent down water from the sky for it to drink, and caused fodder to grow from the earth for it to eat, yet you slaughter it in the name of others besides Allah." He used to reject their (this action) and considered it a great sin.
