´Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) says: I was among those who were standing and praying for forgiveness for Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and his funeral was placed there. Meanwhile, a person put his elbow on my shoulder from behind and said, "(O Umar!) May Allah have mercy on you. I always hoped that Allah would keep you with your two companions (the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him), because I often heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: '(At such and such place) I was, and Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) were (also there); I did this, and Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) did (also); I went, and Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) were (with me).' So I hope that Allah will keep you with them." (Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, says:) I looked around and saw that the one saying this was Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him).
