Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Jews came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mentioned that a man and a woman among them had committed adultery. (They asked:) "What do you command?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What do you find written about stoning in the Torah?" They said: "We disgrace the adulterer and adulteress (by blackening their faces and humiliating them) and flog them." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You are lying. The command of stoning is in the Torah." They brought the Torah, opened it, and a Jew placed his hand over the verse of stoning and began to read what was before and after it. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Lift your hand." He lifted his hand, and there was the verse of stoning. (The Jews) said: "O Muhammad! He has spoken the truth; indeed, the command of stoning is in the Torah." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered, and both of them (the adulterer and the adulteress) were stoned.
