Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) became heavy (with illness) in his final sickness and his illness became severe, he (peace be upon him) sought permission from his wives to be nursed in my (Aisha’s) house, so all of them gave him permission. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) came out (to go to my house) supported between two men, and his (blessed) feet were dragging on the ground as he walked. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) came out with Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and another man (Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him), and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) had come to his house and his illness increased further, he (peace be upon him) said: “Pour seven water skins over me whose knots have not been untied, so that I may advise the people.” (So this was done.) And the Prophet (peace be upon him) was seated in the washbasin of Umm al-Mu’minin Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him). After that, we began to pour water over him (peace be upon him) until he (peace be upon him) gestured to us that (now you have fulfilled the command). After that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) went out to the people.
