Hadith 142

`Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that` he spent a night in the house of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace and blessings be upon him) wife, Umm al-Mu’minin Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) (and she was his maternal aunt). (Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says:) I lay down across the width of the bed, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his wife Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) lay down along its length. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slept until, when half the night had passed, or a little before or after it, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up and sat, wiping the traces of sleep from his blessed face with his hand. Then he recited the last ten verses of Surah Al-Imran. After that, he went to a hanging water-skin, performed ablution from it thoroughly, and then stood up to pray. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I also got up and did as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had done. Then I stood on his left side, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his right hand on my head, took hold of my ear and twisted it, and made me stand on his right side. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then two rak‘ahs, then he prayed Witr. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) lay down until the mu’adhdhin came to him, so he stood up and prayed two light (Sunnah of Fajr) rak‘ahs, then he went out and prayed the morning prayer.
