Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that she asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), “Has there been any day harder upon you than the day of Uhud?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “The troubles I have faced from your people (the Quraysh), only I know them, and the hardest day I faced was the day of Aqabah (which is towards Ta’if), when I presented myself to Ibn Abd Yalail bin Abd Kulal (who was the chief of Ta’if), and he did not fulfill my wish. So I left in great distress, and I did not come to my senses until I reached Qarn al-Tha’alib (a place). I raised my head and saw that a piece of cloud was shading me. Then I looked and saw that in it was Jibreel (peace be upon him). He called out to me that Allah has heard the words of your people to you and the response they gave you, and Allah has sent the Angel of the Mountains to you, so you may command him regarding the disbelievers as you wish.” Then the Angel of the Mountains called out to me, greeted me with peace, and then said, “O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Whatever you wish is present. If you wish, I will cause the two mountains of Akhshabayn to fall upon them?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “No! I do not wish that. Rather, I hope that Allah will bring forth from their descendants people who will worship Allah alone and not associate anything with Him.”
