When the news reached Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), had burned some people with fire, he said: If I were (the caliph), I would never have burned them. Because the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not punish anyone with Allah's punishment." And indeed, I would have killed them as the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever changes his religion, kill him."
