Hadith 1266

Narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say on the day of Khaybar: “I will give the flag to that person by whose hand victory will be granted.” So the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) stood up hoping that the flag would be given to one of them. Then the next day, every person hoped that the flag would be given to them, but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Where is Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)?” Someone informed that he has pain in both his eyes. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered that he be called. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) applied his saliva to both his eyes, and he was immediately cured (it seemed as if) he had no ailment at all. Then he asked whether we should fight these disbelievers until they become Muslim. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Proceed gently. When you reach their field, invite them to Islam and inform them of what is obligatory upon them from Allah. By Allah! If even one person is guided through you, it is better for you than red camels.”
