Hadith 1242

A person asked Sayyiduna Bara bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), "Did you people run away leaving the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Battle of Hunayn?" He replied, "(Yes), but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not run away. (The reason was that the tribe of) Hawazin (were) great archers. When we confronted them and attacked them, they fled. Then the Muslims turned towards the spoils of war, and the disbelievers started showering arrows (so we retreated), but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not run away. Indeed, I saw him riding his white mule, and Abu Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) was holding its reins, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying, 'I am a Prophet, there is no lie in this. I am the son of Abdul Muttalib (the chief).' "
