Hadith 1214

`Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that` my uncle Anas bin Nadr (may Allah be pleased with him) did not participate in the Battle of Badr, so he submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! The very first battle that you (peace be upon him) fought against the polytheists, I was not present in it. Well, now if Allah gives me the opportunity to participate in any battle against the polytheists, then surely Allah will see what I do." Then when the day of the Battle of Uhud came and the Muslims fled, he said, "O Allah! I apologize for what the Muslims have done, and I disassociate myself from what the polytheists have done." Then he advanced and met Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him). He said, "O Sa'd! By the Lord of Nadr: 'Paradise is near. I am smelling the fragrance of Paradise from the other side of Uhud.'" Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say, "O Messenger of Allah! What Anas bin Nadr (may Allah be pleased with him) did, I could not do (even though I am also among the brave ones of Arabia)." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we found our uncle (in the battlefield) martyred, and there were more than eighty (80) wounds of swords, spears, and arrows on his body, and the polytheists had mutilated him (i.e., they had cut off his limbs, nose, ears, etc.), so except for his sister, no one recognized him. She recognized him by his fingers. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that we think that this verse was revealed about him and such Muslims: "Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah..." Then he says that his sister, whose name was Rubayyi', broke the front teeth of a woman, so the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered retribution (qisas). Anas (bin Nadr, may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! By Him Who has sent you with the truth, my sister's teeth will not be broken." Then the claimants became satisfied with blood money and forgave the retribution, so the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Among the servants of Allah are some who, if they swear by Allah relying on Him, Allah fulfills it for them."
