Hadith 1126

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Avoid sitting in the pathways." The people said, "We are compelled (to do so) because these are our sitting places where we converse with each other." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Alright! If you must sit there, then give the pathway its due right." The people asked, "What is the right of the pathway?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Lowering the gaze (from looking at those whom it is not permissible to look at), refraining from causing harm, returning greetings, enjoining good, and forbidding evil."
