Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “O Messenger of Allah! Allah is not shy of the truth, so (please tell me), is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory upon a woman when she has a wet dream?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “Yes, if she sees water (i.e., semen) (on her clothes or private part).” Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) then covered her face out of shyness and said, “O Messenger of Allah! Does a woman also have a wet dream?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “Yes, may your right hand be dusty (i.e., an expression of mild rebuke), then why would the child resemble her if her fluid does not come out?”
