Hadith 1056

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): He said, "The condition of the Muslims and the Jews and Christians is like that of a man who hired some people to work for him for a fixed wage for the whole day until night. So those people worked for him until midday and then said, 'We have no need for the wages you set for us, and the work we have done is also wasted.' The man said to them, 'Do not do this, rather complete your remaining work and take your full wages.' But they refused, and after them, the man hired other people to complete the rest of the day, and whatever I had fixed for them, you will get.' So they started working until when the time of Asr prayer came, they said, 'The work we have done is completely wasted, and the wages you set for this work, may it be blessed for you (we will not work for you anymore).' The man said, 'Complete your remaining work, for only a little of the day is left.' But they refused. Then the man hired other people to work for the remaining part of the day. They worked for the rest of the day until the sun set, and they took the full wages of both groups. So this is the example of these people (i.e., the Muslims) and the light (guidance) which they accepted."
