Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him), the servant of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that he came to the conqueror of Persia, Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), and said: “O Sa’d! Buy from me my two houses which are in your neighborhood.” Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “By Allah! I will not buy them.” Upon this, Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him)—whom Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) had asked to help him in this matter—said: “By Allah! You will have to buy them.” So Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “By Allah! I will not give you more than four thousand dirhams, and that too in installments.” Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I am being offered five hundred gold coins for both of them, and had I not heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say that the neighbor is more deserving due to his proximity, I would not have given them to you for four thousand dirhams, because I am being offered five hundred gold coins for both of them.” Thus, he gave both houses to Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him).
