Description of the blood money for a mukatab slave
Hadith 1187
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "يُودَى الْمُكَاتَبُ بِقَدْرِ مَا عَتَقَ مِنْهُ دِيَةَ الْحُرِّ ، وَبِقَدْرِ مَا رَقَّ مِنْهُ دِيَةَ الْعَبْدِ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، إِلا هِشَامٌ . تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ مُعَاذٌ ، وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَغَيْرُهُ عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتُوَائِيِّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرُوا قَتَادَةَ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The blood money (diyah) of a mukatab (a slave with a contract of manumission) will be equal to that of a free man in proportion to how much he has become free, and in proportion to how much he remains a slave, his blood money will be that of a slave."
