Description of the right of pre-emption
Hadith 1154
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ الأَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجُنْدِيسَابُورِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَزِيعٍ ، عَنْ صَدَقَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : "الصَّبِيُّ عَلَى شُفْعَةٍ حَتَّى يُدْرِكَ ، فَإِذَا أَدْرَكَ إِنْ شَاءَ أَخَذَ وَإِنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ صَدَقَةَ ، إِلا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَزِيعِ ، وَلا عَنْهُ إِلا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A child remains entitled to his right of pre-emption until he reaches maturity; then, when he becomes mature, if he wishes he may take the right, and if he wishes he may leave it."
