Description of reconciling between two disputing parties
Hadith 1148
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى أَبِي الْحَرِيشِ الصُّوفِيُّ الْكِلابِيُّ الْكُوفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الأَسَدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ شِنْظِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ، قَالَ : جِئْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَعِنْدَهُ خَصْمَانِ يَخْتَصِمَانِ فَقَالَ لِي : " اقْضِ بَيْنَهُمَا ، فَقُلْتُ : بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي أَنْتَ أَوْلَى بِذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : اقْضِ بَيْنَهُمَا ، فَقُلْتُ : عَلَى مَاذَا ؟ ، قَالَ : اجْتَهِدْ فَإِنْ أَصَبْتَ فَلَكَ عَشْرُ حَسَنَاتٍ ، وَإِنْ لَمْ تُصِبْ فَلَكَ حَسَنَةٌ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ شِنْظِيرِ ، إِلا حَفْصٌ ، وَلا يُرْوَى عَنْ عُقْبَةَ ، إِلا بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, says: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and there were two quarrelsome people arguing in his presence. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: "Decide between them." I said: May my parents be sacrificed for you, you are more deserving of this matter. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Decide between them." I said: In what matter? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Strive to understand the matter; if you find the correct way, you will have ten good deeds, otherwise one."
