Virtue of holding firmly to the Quran
Hadith 1128
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْبَزَّارُ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُمَرَ رُسْتَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُبَادَةَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْجُحْفَةِ ، فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : أَلَيْسَ تَشْهَدُونَ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ، وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، وَأَنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ جَاءَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ ؟ ، قُلْنَا : بَلَى ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ طَرَفُهُ بِيَدِ اللَّهِ وَطَرَفُهُ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ ، فَتَمَسَّكُوا بِهِ ، فَإِنَّكُمْ لَنْ تَهْلَكُوا وَلَنْ تَضِلُّوا بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، إِلا أَبُو عُبَادَةَ عِيسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الزُّرَقِيُّ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ أَبُو دَاوُدَ ، لَمْ يُحَدِّثْ بِهِ أَبُو دَاوُدَ ، إِلا بِالْبَصْرَةِ
Sayyiduna Jubair bin Mut’im (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at Juhfa, when he came to us and said: “Do you not bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone with no partner, and that I am the Messenger of Allah, and that the Qur’an has come from Allah?” So all said: Of course. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Then one end of this Qur’an is in the hand of Allah Almighty and the other end is in your hands. If you hold firmly to it, you will never be destroyed, nor will you ever go astray after it.”
