Surah Al-Ikhlas is one-third of the Quran
Hadith 1119
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مُكْرَمِ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ، بِالْبَصْرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ السِّجِسْتَانِيُّ سَهْلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُحَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي قَيْسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثَرْوَانَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ الأَوْدِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "أَيَعْجَزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ ؟ ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَمَنْ يَسْتَطِيعُ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ ؟ ، قَالَ : أَيَعْجَزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُحَادَةَ ، إِلا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ، وَلا عَنْهُ إِلا أَبُو حَاتِمٍ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Is any one of you incapable of reciting one third of the Qur’an in a single night?” The noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! Who has the strength to recite one third of the Qur’an? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Is any one of you incapable of reciting «قُلْ هُوَ اللّٰهُ أَحَدٌ» (to the end of the surah)? That is, Surah Ikhlas holds the virtue equal to one third of the Qur’an.”
