Trustworthiness of Musa (Moses), peace be upon him
Hadith 1118
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ ، بِبَغْدَادَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ شُجَاعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَوْبَدُ بْنُ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : "إِذَا سُئِلْتَ أَيُّ الأَجَلَيْنِ قَضَى مُوسَى ؟ ، فَقُلْ : خَيْرَهُمَا وَأَتَمَّهُمَا وَأَبَرَّهُمَا ، وَإِنَّ سُئِلْتَ أَيُّ الْمَرْأَتَيْنِ تَزَوَّجَ ؟ ، فَقُلْ : الصُّغْرَى مِنْهُمَا وَهِيَ الَّتِي جَاءَتْ ، وَقَالَتْ : يَا أَبَتِ ، اسْتَأْجِرْهُ إِنَّ خَيْرَ مَنِ اسْتَأْجَرْتَ الْقَوِيُّ الأَمِينُ ، قَالَ : مَا رَأَيْتِ مِنْ قُوَّتِهِ ؟ ، قَالَتْ : أَخَذَ حَجَرًا ثَقِيلا فَأَلْقَاهُ عَنِ الْبِئْرِ ، قَالَ : وَمَا الَّذِي رَأَيْتِ مِنْ أَمَانَتِهِ ؟ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ : " امْشِ خَلْفِي وَلا تَمْشِي أَمَامِي "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ ، إِلا ابْنُهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "When you are asked which of the appointed promises Musa (peace be upon him) fulfilled, then say: He fulfilled the better and more virtuous of the two. If someone asks which of the two women he married, then say: The younger of them; she was the one who came, and she was the one who said: 'O my father! Hire him for wages; it is better that you hire this laborer, for he is strong and trustworthy.' So her father asked her: 'What strength did you see in him?' She said: 'He lifted a heavy stone and removed it from the well.' The father asked: 'What trustworthiness did you see in him?' She said: 'He walked behind me and did not walk ahead of me.'"
