Description of the one who regrets sins and the one who rejoices over them
Hadith 1070
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الدِّينَوَرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ الْقَاضِي ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَبُو طَاهِرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُطَرِّفُ بْنُ مَازِنٍ قَاضِي الْيَمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "النَّادِمُ يَنْتَظِرُ التَّوْبَةَ وَالْمُعْجَبُ يَنْتَظِرُ الْمَقْتَ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، إِلا مُطَرِّفٌ ، وَلا عَنْهُ إِلا مُوسَى ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who feels remorse over a sin is awaiting repentance, and the one who rejoices over sins is awaiting the anger of Allah."
