Responsibilities of the leader of the Ummah
Hadith 1046
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ الْمِصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا قُدَامَةُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَشْجَعِيُّ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ شَيْبَةَ الطَّائِفِيِّ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : "مَا مِنْ أُمَّتِي أَحَدٌ وَلِيَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ، النَّاسِ ، شَيْئًا لَمْ يَحْفَظْهُمْ بِمَا يَحْفَظُ بِهِ نَفْسَهُ وَأَهْلَهُ ، إِلا لَمْ يَجِدْ رَائِحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، إِلا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ قُدَامَةُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever from my Ummah is appointed over any matter concerning the Muslims and does not protect them in the same manner as he protects himself and his family, he will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise."
