Description of the wise and the incapable person
Hadith 1035
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ السَّلامِ الْبَيْرُوتِيُّ مَكْحُولُ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ بَكْرٍ السَّكْسَكِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ غَنْمٍ ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ ، عَن ِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "الْكَيِّسُ مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ ، وَعَمِلَ بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ ، وَالْعَاجِزُ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ نَفْسَهُ هَوَاهَا وَتَمَنَّى عَلَى اللَّهِ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، إِلا ثَوْرُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، وَغَالِبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْجَزَرِيُّ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَنْ ثَوْرٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ بَكْرٍ
Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The intelligent person is the one who holds himself accountable and acts for what comes after death. And the incapable one is he who lets his soul follow its desires and keeps placing hopes upon Allah the Exalted.”
