Description of the most beloved person and deed to Allah
Hadith 1034
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ الشَّافِعِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ السِّمْسَارُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ قَيْسٍ الضَّبِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سِكِّينُ بْنُ سِرَاجٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا ، جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، " أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ ، وَأَيُّ الأَعْمَالِ أَحَبُّ إِلَى اللَّهِ ؟ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَحَبُّ النَّاسِ إِلَى اللَّهِ أَنْفَعُهُمْ لِلنَّاسِ ، وَأَحَبُّ الأَعْمَالِ إِلَى اللَّهِ سُرُورٌ تُدْخِلُهُ عَلَى مُسْلِمٍ ، أَوْ تَكْشِفُ عَنْهُ كُرْبَةً ، أَوْ تَقْضِي عَنْهُ دَيْنًا ، أَوْ تَطْرُدُ عَنْهُ جُوعًا ، وَلَئِنْ أَمْشِي مَعَ أَخٍ لِي فِي حَاجَةٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَعْتَكِفَ فِي هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ شَهْرًا فِي مَسْجِدِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، وَمَنْ كَفَّ غَضَبَهُ سَتَرَ اللَّهُ عَوْرَتَهُ ، وَمَنْ كَظَمَ غَيْظَهُ وَلَوْ شَاءَ أَنْ يُمْضِيَهُ أَمْضَاهُ ، مَلأَ اللَّهُ قَلْبَهُ رَجَاءً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، وَمَنْ مَشَى مَعَ أَخِيهِ فِي حَاجَةٍ حَتَّى يُثَبِّتَهَا لَهُ ثَبَّتَ اللَّهُ قَدَمَهُ يَوْمَ تَزُولُ الأَقْدَامُ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ عَمْرٍو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، إِلا سِكِّينُ بْنُ سِرَاجٍ ، وَيُقَالُ : ابْنُ أَبِي سِرَاجٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ قَيْسٍ الضَّبِّيُّ
Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A man came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Who is the most beloved person to Allah Almighty and which deed is the most beloved to Allah? So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most beloved person to Allah Almighty is the one who brings the most benefit to people, and the most beloved deed to Allah from all deeds is to bring happiness to a Muslim, or to remove his hardship, or to pay off his debt, or to remove his hunger. And if I walk with my brother to fulfill his need, that walking is more beloved to me than sitting in i'tikaf in this mosque of Madinah for a month. And whoever restrains his anger, Allah Almighty will cover his faults, and whoever suppresses his anger despite having the power to act upon it, Allah Almighty will fill his heart with hope on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever walks with his brother in his need until he fulfills it, Allah Almighty will make his feet firm on the Day when feet will slip."
