Hadith 1022
حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ اللَّيْثِ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ النَّحْوِيُّ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ خَارِجَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ ، سَمِعْتُ الْوَضِينَ بْنَ عَطَاءٍ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "خُذُوا الْعَطَاءَ مَا دَامَ عَطَاءً ، فَإِذَا صَارَ رِشْوَةً عَلَى الدِّينِ فَلا تَأْخُذُوهُ وَلَسْتُمْ بِتَارِكِيهِ يَمْنَعُكُمُ الْفَقْرُ وَالْحَاجَةُ ، أَلا إِنَّ رَحَى بَنِي مَرَحٍ قَدْ دَارَتْ ، وَقَدْ قُتِلَ بَنُو مَرَحٍ ، أَلا إِنَّ رَحَى الإِسْلامِ دَائِرَةٌ ، فَدُورُوا مَعَ الْكِتَابِ حَيْثُ دَارَ ، أَلا إِنَّ الْكِتَابَ وَالسُّلْطَانَ سَيَفْتَرِقَانِ فَلا تُفَارِقُوا الْكِتَابَ ، أَلا إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ أُمَرَاءُ يَقْضُونَ لَكُمْ ، فَإِنْ أَطَعْتُمُوهُمْ أَضَلُّوكُمْ وَإِنْ عَصَيْتُمُوهُمْ قَتَلُوكُمْ ، قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَكَيْفَ نَصْنَعُ ؟ ، قَالَ : كَمَا صَنَعَ أَصْحَابُ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ ، نُشِرُوا بِالْمَنَاشِيرِ وَحُمِلُوا عَلَى الْخَشَبِ مَوْتٌ فِي طَاعَةٍ خَيْرٌ مِنْ حَيَاةٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ "
Sayyiduna Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “As long as a gift remains a gift, you may accept it, but when it becomes a bribe for a loan, then never take it, and you will not be able to leave it because your need and poverty will prevent you from refusing it. Beware! The mill of the pampered ones has turned, and their children have been killed. Beware! The mill of Islam is turning, so you too turn with the Book of Allah. Beware! The Book and the rulers will become separate, but you must not separate from the Book. Beware! Soon there will be rulers over you who will make such decisions for you that if you obey them, you will go astray, and if you disobey them, they will kill you.” The companion said: O Messenger of Allah! What should we do? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do as the companions of ‘Isa (Jesus) (peace be upon him) did; they were sawn in half, they were hung on crosses. Dying in goodness is better than dying in disobedience to Allah.”
