Hadith 939
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ الْقَيْسَرَانِيُّ ، بِمَدِينَةِ قَيْسَارِيَةَ سَنَةَ خَمْسٍ وَسَبْعِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، رَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "مَا عَمِلَ آدَمَيُّ عَمَلا أَنْجَى مِنَ الْعَذَابِ مِنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، قِيلَ : وَلا الْجِهَادَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ؟ ، قَالَ : وَلا الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، إِلا أَنْ تَضْرِبَ بِسَيْفِكَ حَتَّى يَنْقَطِعَ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، إِلا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، وَلا رَوَى عَنْهُ ، إِلا أَبُو خَالِدٍ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this hadith as marfu‘ that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “No deed of a person can save him from Allah’s punishment more than the remembrance of Allah.” It was asked: O Messenger of Allah! Not even striving in the way of Allah? He replied: “Yes, even striving in the way of Allah, unless you strike with your sword so much that it breaks.”
