Description of the punishment for apostates and rebels
Hadith 920
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْحَرْبِيُّ ، فِي كِتَابِهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ الْعِجْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْثَرُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ أَبُو زُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ سَوَّارٍ ، عَنْ غَيْلانَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، " أَنَّ نَفَرًا ، مِنْ عُرَيْنَةَ قَدِمُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَاجْتَابُوا الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَأَخْرجَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى إِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ ، فَشَرِبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا فَصَلَحُوا ، فَاسْتَاقُوا الإِبِلَ ، وَارْتَدُّوا عَنِ الإِسْلامِ ، فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِطَلَبِهِمْ ، فَأُدْرَكُوا ، فَقَطَعَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَأَرْجُلَهُمْ ، وَسَمَّرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ غَيْلانَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، إِلا أَشْعَثُ ، وَلا عَنْ أَشْعَثَ ، إِلا عَبْثَرٌ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: A group from ‘Uraynah came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah and found the climate of Madinah unsuitable. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent them to the camels of charity, and there they drank the milk and became well. Then they drove away the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) camels and became apostates from Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that they be searched for, and when they were found, he (peace and blessings be upon him) had their hands and feet cut off and their eyes branded with heated irons.
