Description of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) being from the descendants of Nadr ibn Kinana
Hadith 851
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَائِلَةَ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَجَلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ حَيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ الْجِفْشِيشِ الْكِنْدِيِّ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ قَوْمٌ مِنْ كِنْدَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالُوا : " أَنْتَ مِنَّا وَادَّعُوهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لا نَنْبُوا أُمَّنَا ، وَلا نَنْتَفِي مِنْ أَبِينَا ، نَحْنُ مِنْ وَلَدِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ كِنَانَةَ "، لا يُرْوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ ، إِلا عَنْ جِفْشِيشٍ ، وَلَهُ صُحْبَةُ ، وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَاصَمَ الأَشْعَثَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ ، إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الأَرْضِ ، فنزلت فِيهِمَا هَذِهِ الآيَةُ : إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 77 الآيَةَ لا يُرْوَى إِلا بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ
Jafshish al-Kindi, may Allah be pleased with him, says: Some people from Kindah came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "You are from us." They claimed him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "We do not accuse our mothers, nor do we deny our father. We are from the descendants of Nadr bin Kinana." This hadith is narrated only from Jafshish, and he is a companion, and he is the same companion who brought a dispute over a piece of land with Ash'ath bin Qais to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and regarding both of them this verse was revealed: «إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا» "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price..." (Aal Imran: 77)
