Description of the family of Muhammad (peace be upon him)
Hadith 845
حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ إِلْيَاسَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ الْكَبَّاشُ الْمِصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا نُعَيْمُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : " سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ آلُ مُحَمَّدٍ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : كُلُّ تَقِيٍّ ، وَقَالَ : وَتَلا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنْ أَوْلِيَاؤُهُ إِلا الْمُتَّقُونَ سورة الأنفال آية 34 "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، إِلا نُوحٌ . تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ نُعَيْمٌ
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: It was asked from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Who are the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied: "Every God-fearing person." Then he recited this verse: «إِنْ أَوْلِيَاؤُهُ إِلَّا الْمُتَّقُونَ» "Indeed, His friends are only the God-fearing." (Al-Anfal: 34)
Hadith 846
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُجَاهِدٍ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَافِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ طُعْمَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْجَعْفَرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجَحَّافِ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْفٍ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ أُعَزِّيهَا عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، فَقَالَتْ : دَخَلَ عَلَي ّرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَجَلَسَ عَلَى مَنَامَةٍ لَنَا ، فَجَاءَتْهُ فَاطِمَةُ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ وَرَحْمَتُهُ عَلَيْهَا بِشَيْءٍ وَضَعْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ : " ادْعِي لِي حَسَنًا ، وَحُسَيْنًا ، وَابْنَ عَمِّكِ عَلِيًّا ، فَلَمَّا اجْتَمَعُوا عِنْدَهُ قَالَ لَهُمْ : هَؤُلاءِ حَامَتِي وَأَهْلُ بَيْتِي ، فَأَذْهِبْ عَنْهُمُ الرِّجْسَ وَطَهِّرْهُمْ تَطْهِيرًا "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ طُعْمَةَ ، إِلا زَافِرٌ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ مِشْكِدَانَةُ
Shahr bin Hawshab says: I came to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) to offer condolences for Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), so she said: Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and sat on a sheet. Lady Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) brought something to him, and I placed it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Call Hasan, Husayn, and your cousin as well." When they had all gathered with him, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about them: "These are my special children and my Ahl al-Bayt. O Allah! Remove impurity and filth from them, and purify them thoroughly."
