Explanation of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) three supplications for his Ummah
Hadith 763
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، بِمَدِينَةِ جَبَلَةَ سَنَةَ تِسْعٍ وَسَبْعِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا جُنَادَةُ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ الأَزْدِيُّ الْحِمْصِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : "سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ثَلاثَ خِصَالٍ ، فَأَعْطَانِي اثْنَتَيْنِ ، وَمَنَعَنِي وَاحِدَةً ، سَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لا يُسَلِّطَ عَلَى أُمَّتِي عَدُوًّا مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ ، فَأَعْطَانِيهَا . وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لا يَقْتُلَ أُمَّتِي بِالسَّنَةِ ، فَأَعْطَانِيهَا . وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لا يَلْبِسَهُمْ شِيَعًا ، فَأَبَى عَلَيَّ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ مُبَارَكِ بْنِ فَضَالَةَ ، إِلا جُنَادَةُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I asked my Lord for three things; Allah Almighty granted me two of them and did not grant me one. I asked that no foreign nation be imposed upon my Ummah as an enemy, and Allah granted me this. My second request was that they not be destroyed by famine, and Allah granted me this as well. My third supplication was that they be saved from discord among themselves, but Allah did not accept this supplication."
