Explanation of Allah’s address to Adam (peace be upon him) on the Day of Judgment
Hadith 758
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ زِيَادٍ الأَبْزَارِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ النَّرْسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ الْعَبَّادَانِيُّ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عِيسَى الرَّقَاشِيُّ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَنَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : "لَيَعْتَذِرَنَّ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِلَى آدَمَ ثَلاثَ مَعَاذِيرَ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : يَا آدَمُ ، لَوْلا أَنِّي لَعَنْتُ الْكَذَّابِينَ ، وَأَبْغَضْتُ الْكَذِبَ وَالْخُلْفَ ، وَأُعَذِّبُ عَلَيْهِ لَرَحِمْتُ الْيَوْمَ وَلَدَكَ أَجْمَعِينَ مِنْ شِدَّةِ مَا أَعْدَدْتُ لَهُمْ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ ، وَلَكِنْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ مِنِّي لأَنْ كُذِّبَتْ رُسُلِي وَعُصِيَ أَمْرِي ، لأَمْلأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ ، وَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : يَا آدَمُ ، اعْلَمْ أَنِّي لا أُدْخِلُ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِكَ النَّارَ أَحَدًا ، وَلا أُعَذِّبُ بِالنَّارِ إِلا مَنْ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ بعِلْمِي أَنِّي لَوْ رَدَدْتُهُ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا لَعَادَ إِلَى شَرِّ مَا كَانَ مِنْهُ ، فِيهِ ، وَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ وَلَمْ يَعْتَبْ ، وَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : يَا آدَمُ ، قَدْ جَعَلْتُكَ حَكَمًا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ ذُرِّيَّتِكَ ، قُمْ عِنْدَ الْمِيزَانِ ، فَانْظُرْ مَا يُرْفَعُ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ أَعْمَالِهِمْ ، فَمَنْ رَجَحَ مِنْهُمْ خَيْرُهُ عَلَى شَرِّهِ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ فَلَهُ الْجَنَّةُ حَتَّى تَعْلَمَ أَنِّي لا أُدْخِلُ مِنْهُمُ النَّارَ إِلا ظَالِمًا "، لا يُرْوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، إِلا بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ يُؤَيِّدُ قَوْلَ مَنْ قَالَ : إِنَّ الْحَسَنَ قَدْ سَمِعَ مِنَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، وَقَدْ رَأَى الْحَسَنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, delivered a sermon on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will excuse Himself to Adam, peace be upon him, regarding three matters. Allah Almighty will say: O Adam! I have cursed the liars, and I consider lying and breaking promises to be evil, and I also punish for it. If it were not so, I would have shown mercy to all your progeny from the severe punishment I have prepared, but it has been established from Me that if My messengers are denied and My command or the messengers are disobeyed, then I will fill Hell with jinn and mankind. And Allah Almighty will say: O Adam! Know that from your progeny, I will punish in Hell only that person about whom I know with My knowledge that if I send him back to the world again, he will become even worse than before, and he will never turn back from his wickedness, nor will he make any excuse. And Allah Almighty will say: O Adam! I appoint you as a judge between Me and your progeny; stand by the Scale, then look at the deeds that are brought up to you from them. So, whoever's good deeds outweigh his bad deeds by even a particle, for him is Paradise, so that you may know that I do not admit anyone to Hell by oppressing him."
