Hadith 661
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلامَةَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الطَّحَاوِيُّ الْمِصْرِيُّ الْفَقِيهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ وَهْبُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ بْنُ شُرَيْحٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْهَادِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ عُقْبَةَ ، قَالَتْ : مَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُرَخِّصُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ إِلا فِي ثَلاثٍ ، كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَآلِهِ يَقُولُ : لا أَعُدُّهُنَّ كَذِبًا : الرَّجُلُ يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ يُرِيدُ بِهِ الإِصْلاحَ ، وَالرَّجُلُ يَقُولُ الْقَوْلَ فِي الْحَرْبِ ، وَالرَّجُلُ يُحَدِّثُ امْرَأَتَهُ ، وَالْمَرْأَةُ تُحَدِّثُ زَوْجَهَا "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ حَيْوَةَ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ ، إِلا وَهْبُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with her): I never saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permitting any lie except in three matters. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not consider them to be lies: one is a person who brings reconciliation between people with it (i.e., with a lie), one is who speaks something during war, and the third is when a husband and wife talk to each other."
