Al-Mu'jam al-Saghir

Abu Jarwal Zuhair bin Surad Jashami says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) captured us at Hunayn (from Hawazin) and began distributing the captives and goats, I started reciting poetry about it: Be kind, O Messenger of Allah! Bestow your favor upon us, you are the one from whom we hope and expect. Bestow your favor upon a group whose fate has turned against them, whose unity has been scattered, and time has changed them. Time has appointed for us a caller of sorrow, their hearts are covered with darkness and veils. If you do not compensate them with your kindness, you will disperse them even more. When a matter becomes clear, you are superior to all people in courage. Bestow your favor upon those women whose milk you drank, while you filled your mouth with their milk, which was like pearls. When you were a small child and nursed, and whatever they kicked and left behind, that thing adorned you. Do not treat us like the one who, in excitement, became cold, but keep us, for we are good people. When there is ingratitude, we show gratitude for blessings, and even after that, your favors will remain with us. So, forgive those mothers whose milk you drank, indeed forgiveness is a well-known thing. O best of beings, when sparks fly in battle and fine horses prance for it. We hope for that forgiveness from you which you will grant to this creation. So forgive us, may Allah forgive you on the Day of Resurrection for that which you fear, and may He make success a gift for you. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard these verses, he said: "Whatever belongs to me or to Banu Abdul Muttalib is yours." The Quraysh said: Whatever is ours is for Allah and His Messenger. The Ansar said: Whatever is ours is also for Allah and His Messenger.
