Hadith 491
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ النَّاقِدُ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأُرُزِّيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ تَمَامٍ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، "أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبِ ، خَطَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنْ كُنْتَ تَزَوَّجُهَا ، فَرُدَّ عَلَيْنَا ابْنَتَنَا "، عَلَى هَا هُنَا انْتَهَى حَدِيثُ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ وَفِي غَيْرِ هَذَا زِيَادَةٌ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : وَاللَّهِ ، لا تَجْتَمِعُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَبِنْتُ عَدُوِّ اللَّهِ تَحْتَ رَجُلٍ ، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ خَالِدٍ ، إِلا ابْنُ تَمَامٍ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ الأُرُزِّيُّ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports: Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for the hand of Abu Jahl’s daughter, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If you wish to marry her, then return our daughter to us.” In another chain of narration, there is this addition: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “By Allah! The daughter of the Messenger of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah cannot be united in marriage to one man.”
