Description of performing Hajj on behalf of parents
Hadith 441
حَدَّثَنَا حَامِدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْمُؤَدِّبُ ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، " إِنَّ أَبِي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ ، لا يُطِيقُ الْحَجَّ ، أَفَأَحُجُّ عَنْهُ ؟ ، قَالَ : أَكُنْتَ قَاضِيًا دَيْنًا لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : نَعَمْ ، فَقَالَ : فَدَيْنُ اللَّهِ أَوْلَى حُجَّ عَنْهُ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ ، إِلا أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ سُرَيْجٌ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: My father is old and cannot perform Hajj; can I perform Hajj on his behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If your father had a debt, would you pay it off for him?" He replied: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then Allah's debt is more deserving of being paid. Perform Hajj on his behalf."
