Prohibition of letting the garment hang below the ankles in prayer
Hadith 294
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ ابْنُ حَنِيفَةَ أَبُو حَنِيفَةَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ الْجُشَمِيُّ الْحَوْزِيُّ الْمُقْرِئُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، عَنِ الْهَيْثَمِ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ الصَّيْرَفِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الأَقْمَرِ ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : "أَبْصَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلا يُصَلِّي ، وَقَدْ سَدَلَ ثَوْبَهُ ، فَدَنَا مِنْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَعَطَفَ عَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَهُ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الأَرْقَمِ ، إِلا الْهَيْثَمُ . تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ حَفْصُ بْنُ أَبِي دَاوُدَ
Sayyiduna Abu Juhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man performing prayer with his garment trailing. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approached him and folded his garment over him, that is, placed it over the edges of his neck.
