The chapter on praying while carrying children
Hadith 234
حَدَّثَنَا حَكِيمُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْمُتُونِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْمَدِينِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ الزُّرَقِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ "يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ حَامِلٌ أُمَامَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ وَهِيَ بِنْتُ زَيْنَبِ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَإِذَا رَكَعَ وَضَعَهَا ، وَإِذَا قَامَ حَمْلَهَا حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلاتِهِ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، إِلا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَالْمَشْهُورُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ
Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to perform prayer while carrying Umamah bint Abi al-As ibn al-Rabi’, who was the daughter of Zaynab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When he would bow (ruku’), he would put her down, and when he stood up, he would pick her up again. This continued until he finished the prayer.
