The chapter on the Ibrahimic salutation (salat al-Ibrahimiyya)
Hadith 203
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَبُو بِشْرٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، بِبَغْدَادَ بأَصْبَهَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ آدَمَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى السِّينَانِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هَانِئٍ عَمْرِو بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ عُتَيْبَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَمَّا السَّلامُ فَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ ، فَكَيْفَ الصَّلاةُ ؟ فَعَلَّمَهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ : اللَّهُمَّ ، صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ أَبِي هَانِئٍ ، إِلا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka‘b bin ‘Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “We have come to know about (how to say) Salam; now tell us, how should we send blessings (salat) upon you?” So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him this salutation:
“O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. And bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
“O Allah! Send mercy upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon his family, just as You sent mercy upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and upon his family, just as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and upon his family. Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
“O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. And bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
