It is better to shorten the prayer during travel
Hadith 197
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَزَّارُ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْقُدُّوسِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَبْحَابِيُّ الْعَطَّارُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَاصِمٍ الْكِلابِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ مَطَرٍ الْوَرَّاقِ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " سَافَرْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ ، فَلَمْ أَرَهُمْ يَزِيدُونَ عَلَى رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ مَطَرٍ ، إِلا هَمَّامٌ
Sayyiduna Salim bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, who said: I traveled with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and I never saw them perform more than two rak‘ahs (in prayer) while traveling.
