The five daily prayers are expiation for minor sins
Hadith 193
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ أَبُو الصَّقْرِ الضَّرِيرُ التَّمِيمِيُّ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ الْمُؤَدِّبُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ اللاحِقِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ ابْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "تَحْتَرِقُونَ تَحْتَرِقُونَ ، فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتُمُ الْفَجْرَ غَسَلَتْهَا ، ثُمَّ تَحْتَرِقُونَ تَحْتَرِقُونَ ، فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتُمُ الظُّهْرَ غَسَلَتْهَا ، ثُمَّ تَحْتَرِقُونَ تَحْتَرِقُونَ ، فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتُمُ الْعَصْرَ غَسَلَتْهَا ، ثُمَّ تَحْتَرِقُونَ تَحْتَرِقُونَ ، فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتُمُ الْمَغْرِبَ غَسَلَتْهَا ، ثُمَّ تَحْتَرِقُونَ تَحْتَرِقُونَ ، فَإِذَا صَلَّيْتُمُ الْعِشَاءَ غَسَلَتْهَا ، ثُمَّ تَنَامُونَ فَلا يُكْتَبُ عَلَيْكُمْ حَتَّى تَسْتَيْقِظُوا "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، مَرْفُوعًا إِلا اللاحِقِيُّ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you perform the morning prayer, that prayer will wash away that burning (of sins), then you will burn again and the Zuhr prayer will wash it away, then you will burn again and the Asr prayer will wash it away, then you will burn again and the Maghrib prayer will wash it away, then you will burn again and the Isha prayer will wash it away, then you will go to sleep, and then no sin will be written against you until you wake up."
