Statement about a hypocrite scholar
Hadith 59
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ الْكُوفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ كَرَّمَ اللَّهُ وَجْهَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي لا أَتَخَوَّفُ عَلَى أُمَّتِي مُؤْمِنًا وَلا مُشْرِكًا ، أَمَّا الْمُؤْمِنُ فَيَحْجِزُهُ إِيمَانُهُ ، وَأَمَّا الْمُشْرِكُ فَيَقْمَعُهُ كُفْرُهُ ، وَلَكِنْ أَتَخَوَّفُ عَلَيْكُمْ مُنَافِقًا عَالِمُ اللِّسَانِ يَقُولُ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ وَيَعْمَلُ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، إِلا عَبَّادُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ ، وَلا يُرْوَى عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ، إِلا بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not fear for my Ummah from any believer or polytheist, because faith will prevent the believer from excess, and disbelief will destroy the polytheist. But I fear among you the hypocrite who is a scholar only with his tongue; he will say things that you recognize, but he will act in a way that you consider evil."
