Statement about pledging allegiance for goodwill towards Muslims
Hadith 32
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ أَبُو عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ الْغُدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ شَبِيبِ بْنِ غَرْقَدَةَ ، عَنِ الْمُسْتَظِلِّ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ، سَمِعْتُ جَرِيرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَجَلِيَّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، وَكَانَ أَمِيرًا عَلَيْنَا ، يَقُولُ : " بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ ، فَدَعَانِي ، فَقَالَ : لا أَقْبَلُ مِنْكَ حَتَّى تُبَايِعَ عَلَى النُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ "، فَبَايَعْتُهُ ، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنِ الْمُسْتَظِلِّ ، إِلا شَبِيبٌ ، وَلا عَنْهُ إِلا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ
Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah Bajali, may Allah be pleased with him, who was our leader, says: I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Then I returned, and he called me and said: "I will not accept your pledge until you pledge to me that you will have goodwill towards every Muslim." So I pledged allegiance to him.
