Statement about Allah's kindness and generosity
Hadith 30
حَدَّثَنَا صَدَقَةُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَرُوفٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَشْعَثُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ صَعْصَعَةَ بْنٍ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : "مَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ ، فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ حَسَنَةً ، فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عَشْرَ أَمْثَالِهَا إِلَى سَبْعِ مِائَةٍ وَسَبْعِ أَمْثَالِهَا ، وَمَنْ هَمَّ بِسَيِّئَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا لَمْ تُكْتَبْ عَلَيْهِ ، فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ عَلَيْهِ سَيِّئَةً أَوْ يَمْحُوهَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، إِلا أَشْعَثُ
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari رضي الله عنه reports: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Whoever intends to do a good deed but does not do it, one good deed will be written for him. And if he does it, it will be written as ten to seven hundred good deeds. And whoever intends to do an evil deed but does not do it, nothing will be written against him. And if he commits it, one evil deed will be written for him, or Allah Almighty will erase it (i.e., forgive it).”
