Statement about the stages of a child's creation
Hadith 16
حَدَّثَنَا خَلِيفَةُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ الْجَهْمِ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ ابْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ النُّطْفَةَ إِذَا اسْتَقَرَّتْ فِي الرَّحِمِ تَكُونُ نُطْفَةً أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ، ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عَلَقَةً أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ، ثُمَّ تَكُونُ مُضْغَةً أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ، ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عِظَامًا أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ، ثُمَّ يَكْسُو اللَّهُ الْعِظَامَ لَحْمًا ، فَيَقُولُ الْمَلَكُ : أَيْ رَبِّ ، ذَكَرًا أَوْ أُنْثَى ؟ فَيَقْضِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَيَكْتِبُ الْمَلَكُ ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ : أَيْ رَبِّ ، شَقِيُّ أَوْ سَعِيدٌ ؟ فَيَقْضِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، وَيَكْتِبُ الْمَلَكُ ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ : أَيْ رَبِّ ، أَجَلُهُ وَرِزْقُهُ وَأَثَرُهُ ؟ فَيَقْضِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَيَكْتِبُ الْمَلَكُ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، إِلا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ الْجَهْمِ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ ، وَلا عَنْهُ إِلا أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ . تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the drop of fluid settles in the womb, it remains as a drop for forty days, then it remains as a clot for forty days, then it remains as a lump of flesh for forty days, then in forty days bones are formed, then Allah Almighty clothes the bones with flesh. Then the angel says: O Allah! Is it male or female? So Allah Almighty decides, and the angel writes it down. Then he says: O my Lord! Is he blessed or wretched? So Allah Almighty decides, and the angel writes it down. Then he says: O Lord! What is the time of his death, his provision, and his lifespan? So Allah Almighty decides, and the angel writes it down."
