Description of the weeping of the believer and the hypocrite
Hadith 987
حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْبَجَلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ السَّلامِ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبَى وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ : "بُكَاءُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ وَبُكَاءُ الْمُنَافِقِ مِنْ هَامَتِهِ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، إِلا عَبْدُ السَّلامِ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The weeping of a believer is from the heart, whereas the weeping of a hypocrite is from his skull."
