Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, says: I have never regretted anything as much as I regretted not asking the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about the wind. So Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I asked him, peace and blessings be upon him, about it. I said: O Messenger of Allah! What is the wind made of? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "From the fragrance of Allah, which Allah sends with mercy and also with punishment."

Narrated Abu Hurairah: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The wind comes from Allah's mercy. Salamah's version has: It is Allah's mercy; it (sometimes) brings blessing and (sometimes) brings punishment. So when you see it, do not revile it, but ask Allah for some of its good, and seek refuge in Allah from its evil.
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues: In Sahih Muslim, the wording of this supplication is as follows: (Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bihi wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bihi) (Sahih Muslim, al-Salat, Hadith: 899)

´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said:` "Do not curse the wind, for it is from the mercy of Allah, bringing Rahmah (i.e., rain and breezes), or destruction. But ask Allah for its goodness, and seek refuge with Allah from its evil."

Benefits and Issues: ➊ Air is one of Allah’s great blessings, without which human life is not possible. However, this very air, by Allah’s command, can become a storm and hurricane, causing destruction.
➋ Mercy and punishment are in Allah’s control; therefore, one should have hope in Him and fear Him alone.
➌ On the occasion of strong winds and storms, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to supplicate in this manner: (Allahumma inni as’aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ursilat bihi wa a’udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha wa sharri ma ursilat bihi) (Sahih Muslim, Salat al-Istisqa, Chapter: Seeking refuge when seeing wind and clouds, and rejoicing at rain, Hadith: 899) “O Allah! I ask You for its goodness, the goodness within it, and the goodness with which it has been sent. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil within it, and the evil with which it has been sent.”
Just as it is sinful to curse human beings, likewise, it is wrong to curse animals and inanimate creation.
