Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and then supplicated with such a supplication as the people had never heard before, and sought refuge from Allah in such a way as the people had never heard before. So some people said: O Messenger of Allah! If we supplicate like this and seek refuge in this way, how will that be? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You should say: «اللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ بِمَا سَأَلَكَ مُحَمَّدٌ عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ وَنَسْتَعِيذُ مِمَّا اسْتَعَاذَ مِنْهُ مُحَمَّدٌ عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ» 'O Allah! I ask You for that which Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Your servant and Messenger, asked You for, and O Allah! I seek refuge in You from that which Your servant and Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge from.'"
