حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَارُودِيُّ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلامِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَوَّامِ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ "إِذَا خَافَ قَوْمًا ، قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شُرُورِهِمْ ، وَنَدْفَعُكَ فِي نُحُورِهِمْ "، لَمْ يَرْوِهِ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، إِلا أَبُو الْعَوَّامِ عِمْرَانُ الْقَطَّانُ ، تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلامِ
Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) feared something from a people, he would say: "«اللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شُرُورِهِمْ وَنَدْفَعُكَ فِي نُحُورِهِمْ» "O Allah! We seek refuge in You from their evils and we put You against them."

1537. Commentary: Adopting prescribed material means to protect oneself from the evils of enemies and malicious people is also an essential part of tawakkul (reliance upon Allah). And constantly seeking Allah’s mercy is the duty of a Muslim and his distinguishing characteristic.
